One truly awesome plus of having a blog is having a place to share all of the photos I take. As a highly visual person, I have always loved the idea of photo diaries to tell a travel story. So today I will be sharing some of my favorite photos from Aix and Marseille (with some additional text).

I had a wonderful time in Aix-en-Provence and Marseille. The last time I was in Aix was in 2009 when I was in a study abroad program and it was one of my favorite cities during the program. I love cities where you can just walk around, so that is exactly what my family and I did for our time there. We stocked up on fresh lavender, browsed through the side streets and toured the cathedral. Finally, we took a break and had a typical Provençal meal which made my heart and my stomach very pleased.

Around mid-day, I started to develop a headache that ended up becoming a full-blown I-might-pass-out migraine by the time we got to Marseille mid-afternoon. It was devastating as I was really looking forward to being in Marseille! Not knowing when I would get the opportunity to return, I did my best to see and do as much as possible until I was physically unable. We spent the afternoon exploring the Old Port and ultimately made our way to Notre-Dame de la Garde. I was unable to make it to the top, but from the base, the views of the city were incredible. I could only imagine what the views (360!) from the top looked like. (By the time we got back to the ship, I could barely walk and almost passed out. Thankfully, two Advil and room darkening curtains allowed for total rest and recovery.)

When I first went away for study abroad, I was told I would hate France. “The people are so rude!” I took all of the “advice” I was given with a grain of salt (always consider your source…) Sure enough, I fell in love with France. The culture, the food and especially the people. Every time I go back, no matter what, I just fall more in love with this beautiful country.
