So I started putting this list together back in October but only just now finalized it. Part of it was due to the fact that I was mid-transition with my career and had no idea where life was taking me. The other part was due to the fact that I want to go everywhere and have a hard time prioritizing where I would realistically be able to travel given time off and you know, money to pay for said travels.
It’s been 9 months, but I have finally decided on a few places I’d like to visit this year. The list is a short one, but if I get to cross off even one destination, I will be happy with that.
CUBA
Cuba has been a dream destination of mine since I was little. Sure, there were ways to get there prior to 2015, but let’s be honest, it’s just so much easier to get there now than it was before. When jetBlue and Royal Caribbean started announcing flights and itineraries to Cuba, I was ecstatic- I couldn’t believe that my dream of traveling to Cuba was becoming a reality in this lifetime.
So why Cuba? There is something about the country’s rich history and the fact that it is so unspoiled by modern technology that I find very, very appealing. The perfect place to immerse and unplug.
PUERTO RICO
Puerto Rico is one of my favorite places in the world- top 5 for sure. I stayed away from visiting last year due to the concerns surrounding the Zika virus, a hard decision to make. After spending some time educating myself and talking to my doctor, I feel better prepared and less worried about the “what if’s.” I typically stay in the San Juan area, but I’m looking to explore another/new part of the island. Any suggestions?
DISNEY WORLD / EPCOT/ THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER
So the last time I went to Disney, I was in a stroller. My parents took me when I was about 6 months old and never again. So I would say that I am definitely overdue for a trip. I’ve heard that a lot of planning (and money) goes in to a trip to Disney, so I’m going to let one of my more Disney inclined friends do the planning. I’m hoping to see Disney, but really Epcot and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter top my Disney must-see.
A CRUISE ANYWHERE
One of my favorite vacations to take is a cruise. I find them so relaxing, carefree and of course, fun. They are also the vacation choice of my family and what we typically do for our annual family vacation. I’m not picky on the destination, I’m just ready to go on one asap!!
A SOLO TRIP
I took my first solo trip last year and as cliche as it sounds, it was seriously life changing. It was something I always wanted to do but I was so scared: What if I felt lonely? What if people thought I was weird? I was worried about all of the wrong things. But once I got over them, I ended up having a wonderful time. I truly believe a solo trip is something everyone should do at least once a year in their life. Also, there’s nothing like being able to do whatever you want, whenever you want. Total freedom.
