Can you believe we are already halfway through summer? So far summer has been pretty low key for me. June was a great month of personal growth (aka new projects started!) and flying. I had amazing crews which made for some easy flights and some really fun layovers. Then I took the last week of June off and spent half of the week exploring Charleston, South Carolina and the other half in Flagstaff, Arizona for a wedding. Neither place was on my “radar”, but I absolutely cannot wait to return for a longer stay.

With summer flying at its busiest, July has taken a more hectic change of pace. I’ve been working more and longer trips, so time has truly been flying by. Thankfully, I’ve worked the majority of my trips for the month already and am currently off for 10 whole days. It’s been absolutely amazing to slow down and pause for a minute when everything lately has been go, go, go. Also amazing? Being able to sleep in my own bed for more than one night. Some say one of the greatest luxuries of this job is sleep, which is true. But sleeping in my own bed? Nothing beats that.
On to today’s post…

Normalcy
Besides catching up on sleep, my number one goal for the next few days is to reintroduce some semblance of “normalcy” back into my life. I don’t want to call it a routine, but I want to work on having better balance in my life between work, travel, and home. Constantly being on the go (and saying yes to everything…) is starting to wear on me where I can feel myself being run down and in general just not myself. (I think the appropriate term is burnout.)I’m planning to spend some time meal prepping (cooking is so relaxing for me), redecorating and getting back into a workout routine. I’ve fallen off the wagon with working out (because sleep always wins over the gym) and I am definitely feeling it physically as well as mentally. That is one routine I can’t wait to get back into.
While I had no intention of shopping the Anniversary Sale (I haven’t in years!), I had a Seattle layover last weekend and couldn’t resist the offer to visit the flagship store when my friend came to pick me up on my layover. Even when we walked in as she went to browse, I still had no plan of shopping. Five minutes in and that all changed. I couldn’t resist the pretty things, some of which have been on my wishlist for some time now. I finally picked up Revitalash (2 for $98!), the perfect travel sweater and a few pairs of shoes. There are some really great deals this year, so it was definitely worth checking out.
New Eats | Boogie McGee’s Bayou Smoke House, Downtown LA
I got to work with one of my favorite people ever last week and for many reasons, it did not disappoint. While discussing our layover plans, he mentioned that he was going to get dinner at a fairly new BBQ place in DTLA. Given my love of BBQ, I needed to know absolutely everything about this place. (I had my order ready for UberEats before he even finished telling me about it.) I always want everything when I order BBQ, so I went with my old standby: ribs with a side order of coleslaw and cornbread. Hands down, this was some of the best BBQ I have ever had. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and full of flavor. If you love BBQ and are in the area, definitely plan a visit.
A Day in the Life of a Flight Attendant
A writer at CNBC shadowed a Delta flight attendant for the day for an inside look at the life of a flight attendant and what it’s like to be the crew leader. I absolute loved reading this article and appreciated the perspective the reporter gained from her day with the crew. I even gained a bit of perspective myself from a quote by the flight attendant featured, Melissa:
“Even on my toughest, most challenging days with reroutes, mechanicals, weather delays, medical diversions, challenging passenger interactions or any other job related issue, I still love my job and would not trade it for anything.”
Birthday Travel
My 30th birthday is fast approaching at just under two months away. I really want to go somewhere to celebrate, but can’t decide where! Italy? Hawaii? Paris? Denmark? I feel like I want to go everywhere right now! I’m tempted to just throw a dart at a map and hope for the best. One thing I know for sure, it will be a solo one – I can’t wait to do it again this year.
With this new push for normalcy and balance comes one more thing: motivation. I am aiming for one post a week (I only have about 43 drafts at the moment.) I have some really fun stories and photos that I can’t wait to share. Until then, xx.
