After coming home from TravelCon, I was on such a hight that I soon started to feel overwhelmed. I went into the conference expecting to learn a few things to get me on my way. Instead, I left with a ton of information and the tools I needed to achieve my goals, as well as mentors and friends to learn from and collaborate with. This dream of mine was well on its way of becoming a reality. And to be honest, it left me a little anxious.
No one gets in the way of my success quite like myself, but I told myself that this time had to be different. So instead of flailing in a sea of SEO and analytics I decided to take a pause and focus on non-blog things for a bit.
After TravelCon, I worked one more trip in September before taking some time off before the fast approaching holiday season. I went to Florida in the beginning of October for my cousin’s wedding and some much needed family time. Then I took a few more days at home to just be before returning to work. Relaxing is not something I do easily, so I’ve really been trying my hardest to get better at turning my mind off and not worry about to-do lists. Being able to relax my mind and body and curl up with my favorite fall candle and a good book was as good as any vacation. It was pure bliss to say the least.
As we enter the month of November, I can’t help but reflect on 2018. I know, I know, I still have two months to go, so I won’t get sentimental just yet. But as we get closer to a new year, I can’t help but get excited. Until then, I will be slowly setting my intentions, and getting myself in gear to hit the ground running. Until then, I will be flying. With the holidays on the horizon comes more hours to fly, holiday pay, and seasonal destinations (hello new layovers!) Can’t pass that up!

VITAL PROTEINS COLLAGEN CREAMER
I’ve been a fan of collagen as a supplement for years now and have come to really love the Vital Proteins brand. (Collagen saved my knee from needing surgery a few years back!) On recent trip to Whole Foods, I saw they had the collagen creamer sticks at checkout and picked one up to try. Given the taste of collagen, I never would have put it in my coffee before, so I was a bit skeptical. Not only did the creamer dissolve quickly, it made an otherwise meh cup of airport coffee taste really good. I have since stocked up (love the coconut flavor!), especially since it’s a great alternative to dairy/on-the-go option!
SALT FACT ACID HEAT
PLEASE tell me you have watched one if not all the episodes of this newest food series on Netflix. Samin Norsat is easily the culinary girl boss hero that the world didn’t know it needed. I found myself captivated by the series from the first episode which took place in my beloved Italy. I can’t wait for my next Amazon spree to order her cookbook by the same name. The short ribs from episode two have been on my mind and tastebuds.
AWAY EVERYWHERE BAG
I have been on the hunt for the perfect personal item bag for when I travel for years now. Currently I use a tote similar to this one from Longchamp, but using it when I travel is a pain. It lacks a sleeve to secure to a carry-on handle and requires a bag organizer to keep it from being a cluttered abyss. While it looks incredibly chic, it’s more frustrating to use than it’s worth. Recently I spotted Away’s The Everywhere Bag in a YouTube video and I am pretty much sold on it. It looks good, is made of nylon, has an organized interior (including a laptop pocket!), and a luggage sleeve to secure it to a carry-on. I’m hoping to check it out in stores next time I’m in San Francisco, but I already think it’s the one.
SPEAKING OF LAPTOPS…
Have you seen the new MacBook Air? When I was in college, I absolutely loved my MacBook Air. I sold it once I graduated, but every time I travel I miss it. I always travel with my MacBook Pro, but it is so heavy and takes up valuable packing space. At 2.75 pounds and 15.6mm thin, and a host of amazing new features the new MacBook Air will easily be the perfect laptop to travel with. I’m so happy the rumors weren’t true and that Apple has kept the Air in their lineup.
DO YOU HAVE A FEAR OF FLYING? IT’S NOT IRRATIONAL, I PROMISE.
As I was sitting in the back galley the other day, a customer came up to me and asked me how I am so OK with flying. I would have never guessed behind one of the most beautiful smiles I have ever seen (sounds like a come on, it’s not) that he was a nervous flier. He was really coming down on himself about it, even calling his fear irrational. That’s where I had to stop him.
I’ve talked about my fear of flying in the past, and while it don’t get nervous like I did in the past, I completely understand. Flying is filled with a bunch of unknowns, so how could you not feel uneasy? This metal tube takes you from the ground to 36,000 feet in the air within minutes. You ascend altitudes and don’t lose consciousness. You travel at a speed of 500mph and arrive at your destination in hours instead of days. Not to mention all the other stuff involved. (The stuff that can set your mind into overdrive.)
My best advice? Talk to your flight attendant if you feel uneasy for peace of mind. The pilots are usually busy during boarding doing their preflight checks and walk around of the aircraft, but listen to their welcome PA at boarding. Worried about turbulence? Check the anticipated flight route on FlightAware and reported turbulence on Turbulence Forecast. If you feel anxious, try Hylands Calms Forte. It’s sold as a sleep aid, but it can also be used for anxiety and restlessness. It’s all natural and non-habit forming and a great alternative to Xanax.
BABBEL ITALINO?
Over the summer, I purchased a Babbel Italian subscription at an incredible deal…and completely forgot all about it. After service on a flight recently, I was bored of scrolling through Instagram and needed something stimulating to do. (Reading seems logical, but it makes me sleepy so I don’t do it.) That’s when I remembered the subscription. I logged in, re-downloaded the app, and picked up right where I left off. It’s been a great way to pass the time on flights and to get me back on the road to fluency. I have always wanted to spend some time in Italy, specifically at a language school, fully immersing myself in the language. I’ve wanted to do this for years, so for 2019, it’s at the top of my list.
It’s currently the perfect Fall day(rainy and gloomy) to stay in bed and do nothing. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my day off. Until next time.
